PAINTER’S STUDIO

Opening to an intimate grouping of shaded residential gardens, the studio allows private entry from the street along a flagstone path, framed by a textured storage wall and narrow garden. Exposed structure and millwork of Douglas fir are daylit with clear thermal glazing, and direct summer sun is shaded by mature American black walnut trees. High efficiency mechanical systems combine with passive solar heat gain and natural ventilation to minimize energy consumption.

Awarded the 2007 WoodWorks Residential Award and an Honourable Mention for Architectural Excellence by the Ontario Association of Architects, the project has been published in Canadian Architect, Sustainable Architecture & Building, and 1000x Architecture of the Americas.
